What's the straight scoop on the D10A STC?

It's a topic on a few pilot oriented boards. It seems like great news but there is much skepticism about the cost total cost, since there is not available price information for the STC.

Thanks!

While the EAA owns the STC and thus only they can discuss pricing, they made it clear in the press announcement that the reason they got this STC is to get safety enhancing technologies in more GA planes, and the only way to do that is to lower the cost of equipment. We are confident that the STC cost will not significantly change the cost of installs.

You guys (Dynon & EAA) have done an INCREDIBLE thing for general aviation with this announcement. My hats off to you and just another reason why I am a very satistfied customer.

I found out a few days ago, read more of the marketing fluff today. If I'm correct, the STC'd model needs a GPS antenna. I'll assume it's the bare-bone SV-GPS antenna for the Skyview. Which would imply the SV-GPS-2020 antenna would also work.

Or, 1/2 of the equipment for the 2020 ADS-b mandate, assuming the STC'd D-10 will output the proper SIL? bit to a mode-S transponder.

Excited to see how this plays out, could be big :)

I believe the D10A is just flight instruments with magnetic compass. Makes a nice six pack replacement. The GPS and ADS-B must be marketing fluff. ;)

Unfortunately, you're extrapolating a bit too much from our announcement.

The GPS required for installation of the STC EFIS-D10A is a modified version of the SV-GPS-250 originally developed for SkyView. It's primary use with the STC EFIS-D10A is to provide GPS data to the EFIS-D10A so that it can fail down to using GPS Ground Track in case of a pitot blockage.

There was nothing in our announcement of the STC EFIS-D10A about ADS-B. See our earlier post explaining the GPS that's part of the STC EFIS-D10A.

Will you need a STC  if you install it as backup equipment? I did that in a 7AC with a 337 and had no problems.

The STC for installation of an EFIS-D10A in the aircraft specified in the STC is for installation of the EFIS-D10A as a replacement for the (primary) attitude indicator, but we'll work with the EAA and FAA to expand usage to other areas. Using as a secondary is a little bit in the gray area that we'll need to explore with them.

Any updates on this? It was big news a month ago but publicly it seems stalled? No updates from EAA or Dynon in a while..

We'll have a more detailed update soon, but know that we're still working with EAA and FAA to get everything in a sellable state.
