I just updated from a D10 to the D10A. I'm using the SL70 Transponder. I have found that serial encoder function will not boot up at times when I power up the D10A, it just shows ----- on the SL70. If I shut down the D10A and Repower the unit it will show pressure Alt. and work OK . Then in flight I have found the SL70 will show------ and then read the correct pressure Alt. every few Mins.   The old D10 with the seven wire encoder function did not do this. The SL70 always displayed the pressure ALT., and never displayed ------- . As a note the SL70 can be wired for either serial or seven wire encoder.  What do you think ?          MS

Hard to say. It's likely that if you connected the EFIS to a computer, you'd see the altitude outputting constantly, which would lead us to believe that the issue is on the receiving end. We can always take a look at your EFIS here if you'd like us to check the output for you. A few other checks: Make sure the EFIS and the transponder are grounded to the same place, and that there's a fairly direct electrical connection between those grounds. Make sure you're on encoder format 1 under EFIS>SETUP>ALTENC . Finally, under the same menu menu, try changing the resolution setting (RES) to the other setting.
