D180 altitude report to King KT 76A transponder

Hello everybody,
I am trying to figure out how to make the D180 talk to my transponder.  It is a King KT76A.  Do I need to use the optionnal box sold by Dynon ? is it using the gray code protocol ? :-[

If you wish to use us as your encoder, you'd need the converter box with the KT76A. The box outputs standard gray code.

You are not required to hook the EFIS to your transponder if you already have another altitude encoder.
