Hi;

New here and considering making a Dynon FlightDEK-D180 purchase in the near future. Does anyone knows whether the D180 and a KX-165 will talk to each other through the analog connections? Does it require an HS-34 for this? Do not even know whether the King outputs are to the required standards...

This has been a topic of considerable debate in the BMP world/forums, so hope is simpler here...

Thanks

Carlos

First off, in order to connect any analog radio to the D100, D10A, or D180, you must have the HS34. The only NAV radios that will hook to the EFIS products without the HS34 are the Garmin SL-30 and the 480. These use serial outputs so we can talk to them without the HS34.

So you'll need the HS34. Once you have the HS34, the KX-165 should work fine. It has a built in VOR converter, which is what we need, and it does appear to follow the standard for connection. The KX-155 will NOT work, since it does not have this converter. They do make external converters though if you want to use a KX-155.

Great. Thanks.

Do you all happen to have a pin connection diagram for the KX-165 with GS and the HS-34?

Sir,

I'm not finding any connection diagram in the normal places. I would revisit this thread after the new year when the engineers have had a chance to take a look.

KX-165 Pinout Diagram here.

HS34 Analog Connection diagram is on page 8-13 of the D180 Installation manual.

Be sure and let Dynon know once you have succeeded so they can "officially" post the working solution!

Yes, but what I do not have is the KX-165 pin assignment. Was hoping that it was already available in the forum, as I do not have the documentation on this radio.

Here is an additional note about the current analog pin nomenclature:
