Just installed an SL 30 for use with my D180. I've got a GPS Map 495 as well. I do not have a HS34 but do have the AP 74 to control the Dynon auto pilot.

My problem is I'm unable to control the VOR on the SL 30. I'm able to use the localizer just fine by setting the course with the soft keys on the 180.

Every time I tune a VOR, I can't get a course displayed and I have a NAV flag. The unit seems to be seeing the station as it provides the correct bearing and displays the correct identifier. I just don't know how to get it into VOR mode and how to set a course and get the CDI needle to display.

Again, LOC mode works great.

I've attached a picture of the HSI while in both modes tuned to a LOC and a VOR.

I'm confused??

What happens when you turn the OBS knob on the SL-30?

Do you have your "CDI Head type" in the SL-30 setup set to "NONE"? If you have it set to "serial" you will get this behavior.

I can't get the OBS button to light up.

Is the "CDI Head type" selectable from the SYS button?

Thanks for the help.

That did the trick. The CDI head type was set to "serial". I set it to "None" and everything works as advertised.

Thanks for the help.
