Decluttering ADS-B status from Map Screen

Is there a way to take off the ADS-B status information from the bottom of the MAP page? Make it show up as an alert only if there is an "abnormal" situation. This would help declutter the screen, especially for those of us with 7" displays.

Or make the ADS_B status a single line at the bottom of the map screen, just above the button labels. That would be much less annoying.

Another approach: allow us to make the map screen 60% by making the PFD screen 20%. I don't need the G-meter/direction thingie for my flying, so the attitude indicator could be moved there; frankly, I don't even need the attitude indicator. Maybe give us the choice of having either the G-meter/direction thingie or the attitude indicator at the bottom, with the speed and altitude tapes above it.

I really like the idea of a 60% map screen. The PFD wastes a lot of pixels that would be much more useful to me on the map.

YES!  I want this too.  And it's not a new topic; this issue was raised and discussed almost a year ago: http://dynonavionics.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1408054851/2#2

Alas, I've learned that Dynon's engineering effort goes into adding new features while improving the UX and fixing defects is often a distant second.  It's pretty much a "popularity contest" so the more customers that complain (or at least ask), the more likely we'll be to see a change.

So I encourage everyone who would like a way to declutter the Map screen to pile on here.

Or at least have the option of displaying it at all times, just during an alert situation or never. I also like the idea of having the ADS-B status displayed in the same top area the transponder status is currently displayed.

Um....isn't this request exactly what you're complaining about? A change to the user interface, rather than a defect or bug?

I disagree that Dynon doesn't expend the effort to fix defects, though...have you looked at the change logs for each version?

Not really.  Or perhaps it depends on your point of view.  But here's a case where the UI is the defect.

Take a look at this screenshot and try to discern the aircraft's alignment for pattern entry at KFFZ.  Or even try to find KFFZ with only a brief glance inside at the map.  (It helps there's a magenta course line to it.)

There are way too many distractions.  IMO the Map functionality needs fixing and a declutter function would be one solution.  (This is an old screenshot; it's even more cluttered now with a permanent "North up" indicator, ADS-B and weather status, etc.)

There are other "rough edges" too, all dutifully reported to Dynon.  There have been some successes too (i.e. the fuel quantity indicators response has been changed to minimize nusance alarms in the pattern) but there's still plenty of work to do.

Well, first of all, you're north-up mode and zoom is set at 8 nm. You're not using a goodly chunk of the screen (all the stuff below the airplane icon, really), and at 8 nm, it's the traffic (and there seems to be a lot of it) which is cluttering up the area around the airport (uh, yeah...because airports can be busy and have lots of traffic).

First thing I'd do with this is...zoom in, so I can get a better look at all that traffic. By my count, there are at least 9 targets right around that airport. Go track-up and zoom to 5 or even 3 nm, and I'll bet your picture would be a heck of a lot clearer.

Further, you can turn on/off various items at different scales, via the setup menu, to get whatever declutter you want at whatever scale (granted, you can't do it easily in flight, like the Garmin 430 declutter function, which is very handy...)

I fly in some pretty congested airspace, myself, and while I agree that the big ADS-B block is unnecessary, I don't think your example is one of a "bug" in the UI itself.
