Define Op Limit 1 Area

Is there a way to draw a 25 nm circle around a given point so that one can see if one is flying inside the approved area? This is a common requirement for flying off the initial hours of an experimental amateur built plane.

I understand one can specify a USER waypoint (the center of the 25 nm practice area) and then use NEAREST to find the distance from one's present location to the center of the circle.

I was wondering if there is a little more visual representation such that the circle is presented on the map and one can see one's position relative to it as one flies around?

I understand that not all Op Limit 1 areas are a circle - I'm not asking about that. Further, some, like mine, have areas carved out, for example, I have a piece removed from my circle because of a Class C airport; I'm not asking about that, either.

I just want to know if I can have a 25 nm circle with a known center displayed on the map?

Thanks

I don't think (but I don't know for sure) that what you want is possible - maybe someone will explain how to do it.

HOWEVER, here's a possible workaround. If you divide up that circle into say, 36 segments (a line from 0 to 10 degrees, 10 - 20 degrees, etc.) and make each of those 36 points a USER waypoint, and then create a saved flight plan that goes from 0 to 1 to 2 to 3, etc., you'll have a flight plan that pretty much approximates a circle. If you put that flight plan on your map and zoom out so the whole thing is visible, and you stay inside your flight plan, you're good to go.

Kludgy, yes - but it'll fit the bill. And you can still use the A/P, but only in HDG or TRK mode - not NAV.

You can also create - export - import those user waypoints using a .csv file. Makes handling multiple waypoints easier.

Ask your DAR for a 50 NM radius. It is a lot better then you expand your horizons
