You cannot do this due to the way the AP works inside. The only thing the AP disconnect switch can hook to is ground. If you put other voltages on this wire things will not work and you could damage the AP.
You can wire in a resistor in parallel with the switch and we can warn you if the wire is broken, which is a pretty good fail safe.
