Hi!
I'll be getting my DX15 delivered today. Few questions about the electrical connections.
Battery Charging
The manual says the battery is 7.4V. Tech support told me the vehicle power adapter doesn't have any step-down transformer and is essentially a standard cigarette lighter adapter. When plugged in, the battery will be charged at whatever voltage is supplied to the socket, 12V in my case. I was assured there is no chance of overcharging the 7.4V radio battery, as there is a shutoff circuit in the radio that prevents this. The tech support person was very gracious, but said at the start of our conversation that he didn't know much about the radio and was by no means an expert. So is there really a safeguard of some sorts that would prevent overcharging the battery?
If there is, I plan to make my own power plug that will simply be a wire from the fuse block with a plug spliced onto the end. What size is the charging jack and what size of plug does this take?
Speaker Jack
The manual says the speaker jack is 2.5mm. Again, I plan on rolling my own plugs, so would like to know what sizes I need as well as how many connectors are on the plugs. Seems it would take a 2-conductor plug, since it's not stereo. Something like products.cui.com/CUI_SP-2501_plug_wiring_information.pdf?fileID=187 which is available at digikey.com for a buck.
Mic/PTT Jack
I was told by tech support that the tip of the mic/ptt plug is for PTT, which I think is standard. The ring would be for the mic signal, and the shell for ground. But I hope the 3mm size published in the manual is a misprint. I found tons of 3.5mm 3-conductor plugs, but none in the 3.0mm size.
Cheers,
Dan
