While I was configuring my HDX system setup screens, under PFD Setup > Airspeed Limitations > Performance I ran across a V-speed I hadn't seen before, Vo - Operating Maneuvering speed. As I didn't fully understand Dynon's brief description ("Vo is a speed selected by the manufacturer that is less than or equal to Va"), I did a quick Internet search and found the following video clip by Rod Machado explaining what Vo is, a general "rule of thumb" on how to calculate and how Vo speed changes with gross weight of the plane:
So a plane's Vo could change with every flight, depending on the number and weight of passengers along with total baggage and fuel weights. Where Va is a static number based on the plane's max gross weight, Vo is a dynamic number based on actual, current weight (which may not be equal to max weight).
Since the HDX allows the pilot to enter the gross weight of the airplane using the Weight & Balance menu, couldn't Vo be calculated by the HDX automatically and more precisely each flight instead of having the pilot assign a specific, fixed number to Vo?
There are other V-speeds that are also dependent on the plane's gross weight (Vbg/Best Glide, Vr/Rotation) and altitude (Vx & Vy - granted, these 2 speeds don't change all that much with altitude).
As the HDX system has all the data it needs to calculate the V-speeds that are variable, wouldn't the system be more precise in displaying each of these dynamic V-speeds on the airspeed tape by calculating instead of referencing fixed numbers?
