I installed the D10A and Servos in my RV6a. The calibration and test went through without error. Both servos move as they are supposed to. When I try to engage the AP I get ERR in red on the roll axis. I did not install the compass yet and I tried it while it is sitting in the hangar with the door closed. Could this be a compass issue that will be resolved once the compass is installed? Any other testes I should try?

The AP needs a source to follow. Either a Heading or a Track. If you have a GPS hooked up and it has a signal lock, then you could engage in TRK mode. If you don't, and you don't have a valid heading, then you will get the roll error you describe.

The calibration and test is a pretty full end to end test, so if that is working, I don't think you have anything else to try. Everything else is software that has been tested in thousands of other aircraft already.

Chris:

If you don't have a compass installed, the AP doesn't have any way to determine what direction it should use for HDG.

Also, make sure that you have power applied to the servo.

I was pretty sure that was the reason I am installing the compass this weekend.

Thank You
Chris
