I am interested in installing a Skyview system in the future but for now I want to replace my old Attitude Indicator with a Dynon D6. The D6 will eventually be a backup to the Skyview.

What would I need to purchase in order to maximize the D6's capabilities until I get the Skyview?

Because the D6 is our most basic product, there are only two options for it:

AoA Pitot probe and a backup battery. AoA will work once you have SkyView, so you won't need to buy it again if you want it on SkyView.

Besides that, not many options, which was the point of the D6.

Ok, so you don't use a remote magnetic compass. Do you recommend the wire harness to connect a GPS to the D6?

You really only need to connect one wire directly from the GPS.

Stein (and many other sources, including your local airport avionics guy) will be happy to wire the harness for a reasonable fee, so it's just a question of whether you want to do it yourself or pay for it.

The D6 comes in the $1600 price with a remote magnetic compass.

In the D6, GPS is only used for GPS assist- where GPS is used in the case of pitot blockage. If this is important to you then hook up a GPS. If it isn't, then there is no other use for GPS in the D6.
