I don't know if this is a problem with the program or with my laptop but the upgrade software is attempting to communicate with the d100 using port COM3. My laptop won't assign the USB converter that port because it says it is in use. Is there a way to change the port that the upgrade software is trying to communicate on?

Please note I'm a Mac guy so I'm kinda pc dumb at this point. Also a suggestion: make a Mac version of the updater thanks for any help!

If the support program is latching onto a serial port that the USB to serial converter is definitely not on (you can see which one it's on in the windows device manager), then there may be another serial peripheral connected to the computer that is interfering. First bit of advice: disconnect all other things from the computer than you can. It also could be a driver issue: Make sure you've installed the right version of the drivers for either 32 bit Windows or 64 bit Windows, from our web site at downloads.dynonavionics.com.
