Dynon upgrade

Just a note to warn fellow Dynon users. I sent my Dynon in for the upgrade which was scheduled to take from April 6-13. I requested UPS Next Day Air on return shipment, as I use this airplane for business and needed it back ASAP. It is now the 20th and Dynon tells me that they will try to get it shipped this week yet. That will be over two weeks that they have had it. This has cost me a pile in airline tickets as I had this airplane booked to fly and am handicap without the Dynon. I am simply writing this to warn you to be prepared to be broke down for at least two weeks....who knows could be a month the way it is going right now. Every time I call I have got the same response. "We need to calibrate it and then we will ship it." Great product but once something is in writing as they have done on their upgrade dates I believe someone should stick to the dates and offer some sort of compensation if this turns out to be impossible. I have to in my business.

It is now April 23 and still no Dynon. I talked to Ron on Thursday the 21rst and he said they would UPS Next Day Air Saturday deliver it on the 23rd. I would have been money ahead at this point to buy a new Dynon instead of send in my existing one for a upgrade. It is looking at this point that I am going to buy more airline tickets to keep my business functioning. If I had known what a mess this was going to turn into I would have not sent it in to be upgraded, and likely would have not bought the instrument in the first place.

I ordered my Dynon and received it at the end of March, 9 weeks later. I was told it would take 9 weeks to get it because everyone was working on the new EIS trying to get it ready for Sun and Fun. Also, they had so many orders to fill they could not keep up. I think you just picked a really busy time to pull yours for upgrade. My guess is that one of the reasons the Dynon is $1200 is because the company is a small operation with few employees. I would much prefer them to stay small and inexpensive rather then pay $4000 to $6000 for faster service. But, then again I fly my plane for fun and am not dependent on it for my livelihood. Chances are you would still be waiting for a new one if you had ordered it. At least you know they're not going bankrupt for lack of business.

That is nice that you got yours in a respectable time. I to waited on mine probably 2-3 months when I initially ordered mine. This was not a problem then as they gave me this sort of time frame to expect, and I was perfectly happy with this as it was my problem not theirs to just be sure and get it ordered in time. I had it in plenty of time and everything went well. Great service and support at this point. When they came out with the upgrade option which you obviously have not got they gave week slots and indicated that if you had it to them on the Tuesday of the week you chose they would ship it back on the following Tuesday. I told them to UPS Next Day Air it upon completion which they said they would. You must have got a really good deal on yours as I paid $2195 for mine I believe and that did not include the extra options I purchased with that. You are fortunate to have enough money to fly your airplane for pleasure, but some of us need a business justification to help offset the cost of flying. If you had purchased the D10 as I did and would have had to do the upgrade you would have understood it as I did that the expected turnaround was 1 week as was written on the upgrade sheet. I would have had no problem had they indicated that the upgrade would take 2-3 months. I would have just waited til the winter months when I am grounded due to weather and snow. I am just very careful in my business to not guarantee more than you can meet. If something is going to take a month lets tell the customers up front so they can plan accordingly. I would not have a problem waiting a year if I was told up front that was how long it would take.

Sorry, your right I did pay $2200 for mine, off by $1000. your right, if they promised it in a week it should have been a week. I'm still glad it only costs $2200. john

Just think yourslef lucky that they offer an upgrade path at all - they are under no obligation to do so - they could well have told you that your instrument has been superseeded and that you got what you bought! If you wanted a fully futtureproof instrument supprted by a large company, you should have bought a $10000 Blue Mountain system.

If you'd ever worked in this kind of environment, you'd know that 2 weeks wasn't a lot of time - they're not all sitting there at their work stations, soldering irons poised waiting for your unit to arrive. As I say, I'm surprised that they offer an upgrade path and commend them for doing so!

I have a unit and when I thougt it had gone belly up (turned out that the internal battery was flat) - they were very professional and very quick to give me an RMA to get it back to them.

If your business is so reliant on somethign that cost just $2200, maybe you should think about buying another!!!

Now stop whining!

We apologize for any inconvenience the delay may have caused. We indeed were backed up for a period of about one month and many upgrades were delayed. Since then we have instituted tighter controls to ensure more timely execution. While a quick turn around may not be critical for those still building, we understand others already flying are more sensitive to this issue.

Now when we schedule an upgrade, we set a target date which gets reviewed and tracked daily. Since implementing this we have seen great improvement.

The upgrade program remains an excellent value to customers who wish to keep their systems updated. We intend to keep this offer available for the foreseeable future.
