To Dynon Support,

From AVWEB: "Currently, the FAA proposed mandate states that 100% of operators operating in controlled airspace must be compliant by 2020. Industry leaders expect the final ADS-B Out rule to be published in April of 2010."

Looks like ADS-B is the talk of the town lately. 10 years before mandatory compliance is a long time. But I can see the benefits are there to be reaped by early adopters.

QUESTION: Currently ADS-B does not even feature on the http://www.dynonavionics.com/docs/news_technology_preview.html list. What is Dynon's view currently on ADS-B and the Skyview? Is it possible and even remotely on the plan?

Thanks in advance,
Rudi

Traffic and weather are both on there as discrete items, but specific devices and protocols aren't yet since we're still a little bit away from working on them. Remember that ADS-B is just one particular way to get traffic and wx. And, right this second, there isn't a full ADS-B transceiver that you can buy for under $6-8k, and by the time the mandated functionality comes around, the lower cost receiver-only solutions that are coming to market now won't cut it (you won't receive traffic, in particular, if you aren't broadcasting your position). It'll be a few years before coverage and affordable transceivers converge, and coincidentally, it will probably be a year or so before we get to traffic and weather on SkyView :)

So, in short, yes, we'll support ADS-B in the future.
