Hi -- my remote compass is not detected. Did try firmware reinstall, no luck. So
1. How best to check for wiring issues at the remote compass site?
2. How best to determine is EDC-10A is faulty?

Appreciate any tips on the least painful way to do this.
Thanks Ron N450PR Kerrville, Texas

1. See your EFIS installation manual for the wiring diagram, and confirm that that the correct covered wires were inserted into the correct pins on the 9-pin connector (as that is assembled after threading it through bulkheads). The Pin numbers are printed ON the front and rear of the 9-pin connector (though it often takes a bright flashlight and a magnifying class to see them).

Disconnect the 25-pin connector and the 9-pin connector and verify continuity:
25 pin connector - 9 pin connector
11 to 5
12 to 6
23 to 9
24 to 1

2. After confirming the correct wiring, check that power is arriving at the EDC-D10A connector
+ is Pin 6 (approx. 8V if memory serves)
- is Pin 1

Another note: It previously was working correctly and was detected therefore wiring should be correct. I do have power at the unit on the right pins. Also no OAT indication. Slight burned smell at the EDC. Cooked?

Dynon says to buy a new unit as they do not repair the EDC out of warranty.

I bought a DB9 tester -- lights up to show activity for each pin. If EFIS and wiring are working properly what activity should I expect to see on the tester?

The signals on the 9-pin connector for the EDC-D10A are not standard RS-232 (serial data) signals, so your (I assume RS-232) tester won't be able to provide you any meaningful information.
