My EFIS-D10A has developed a display issue, so I am about to replace it with my spare that I purchased for this occasion a year or so ago. My system consists of the EFIS-D10A plus EDC-D10A and OAT probe.

If I use the Dynon utility program to do a 'firmware backup' then restore, what exactly will I get with the new unit? Will my V-speeds and EDC compass calibration cross over, or do these need to be done again?

I have already verified that firmware versions are at the latest /identical version.

Thanks in advance...

That feature should only be used with the same exact unit. It essentially images the WHOLE system, including internal ADAHRS calibrations that are performed at the factory, can't be replicated in the field, and are unique to your device. There is an OEM settings backup that may work in this case, if you enable special oem functions in the support program setup. Once you've enabled that, there will be a new option in the dropdown. Choose regular settings backup when prompted, and don't copy user calibrations when prompted. Make sure both the old an new units have the same firmware version before importing/exporting as well. You will do need to re-do your mag cal, but most other things should transfer.

All of that said, if it were me, I'd probably just do it by hand. Modern computers and serial ports can be a bit flaky/fragile, and the support program to EFIS interface can be finicky.

Thanks for the info. Thank goodness I didn't go ahead and try the restore.

I have now entered everything and done the compass calibration again. It was only 45 minutes start to finish, including installing the new unit, setting the speeds, and compass calibration. I spent hours dreading doing the compass calibration again, it turned out to be quicker and easier than I remembered.

Again, thanks for the support.
