My panel issues seem to be endless.

I have an ems-d10, efis-d10a, hs34, edc-d10a. In every incremental installation, everything worked and talked to everything else.

I went to finish off the install (no new wiring) and noticed the "remote compass not detected" message. This was new. Yes, it's plugged in. :) However, it felt remarkably warm. Now, I never tried to grope the edc before so maybe it was always warm.

Is the edc dead?

The EDC draws pretty negligible power and shouldn't be any warmer than the environment around it. Make sure that whatever it's mechanically attached to isn't pushing heat into it (IE, is there heat transmission coming through the screws/bolts that attach it). Beyond that, it's likely either the wiring between the EFIS and EDC or the EDC itself. So if you're confident about the former, we should probably take a look at the compass.

Just to close the loop, I wound up just ordering a new EDC. All is right with the world. :)
