We Purchased our EFIS D6 (D6 v 1.0.1-ser no.1063, EDC-D10A v 5.1.1 ser no 10848) in November 2009, via MENDELSSOHN PILOT SUPPLIES UK
Purchased original wiring Harness in December.
Installed in our new Dimond hk36 motorglider in December. This was done at our workshop temperature about 20 degrees Celsius. Everything looked fine after installation.
Because of harsh winter and much snow, and wet runway, we could not fly until about April 1 this year.
At every start - D6 blinks black and blue screen.
But after about 10-15 minutes airborne - D6 works correctly
We have checked the voltage and the minimum is never less than 12 volts.
Yesterday I downloaded 5.3 (D6/D60 1.1) PC Software and the first thing I did was doing a backup of the existing software in the unit –
Then I let it do updating to the unit. Everything went fine - just no change – after that - still blinking.
As a test I used a hair dryer and heated the room behind the dashboard to about 20 degrees Celsius for one hour.
Then when starting EFIS D6 everything works perfectly normal.
I stopped and started the unit several times with no problems.
Then waited until temp was dropped again down to hangar temp which was abt.10 deg Celsius.
Then the problem was there again.
Did all the preheating again – and all working ok.
Is this temp problem a known issue?
Im asking because the next new aircraft to the club here – a Stemme S6 will be delivered from Stemme June 1 - and this one is ordered with a EFIS D10 installed.
