EFIS horizon not level on startup?

My D10a shows a 3-4 degree bank to the left after startup and will return to level after about 10 minutes of flight time. Any ideas what might cause this? The head is level in roll with regard to the airframe.

Thanks,
Ed

Ed,
Does it do this every time you fly, or did it do it just once?

It started doing it about 3 months ago, and it does it every time I fly now. It never did it prior to 3 months ago.

Ed,

Does your EFIS show a turn rate on the ground?

Does the 3-4 degrees show immediately at startup? Or during taxi? Or upon takeoff?

How long was it functioning correctly before it started showing this behavior?

Did this behavior emerge gradually over time, or all at once?

It doesn't show a turn rate nor does the compass heading change, it just shows a bank. The unit has been installed for around 6 months, and from the beginning it showed a very slight bank (the horizon bar was just one "click" from level). After 10 minutes of flight it would straighten out. I don't think the additional bank has been gradual, I'm pretty sure it just went from that minor bank to 3-4 degrees a few months ago.

I'm fairly sure it does it right on startup, but I'll have to check. I know it does happen before runup though. And I just realized it shows a *right* bank, not a left, if that makes any difference.

Ed,

What exactly do you mean by one "click"? Is it one pixel? Or one tick mark on the roll scale (10 degrees)?

We'd be interested in getting a firmware backup of your unit, in order to look at some of the internal parameters.

When you get a chance, please call us at 425-402-0553 for further help.

I guess I'd say one pixel. Basically, the smallest unit of measurement that the horizon line can show from level. That was what the unit *originally* was off by. As of the last few months it's off by about 3-4 degrees.

I powered the unit up yesterday on the ground, no movement, engine off, and the horizon only showed the "one pixel" error from above, but it was showing a rate of turn of about 1/3 of a 2minute turn (the yellow bar went 1/3 of the way to the 2minute turn arrow) This lasted about 10 minutes, and the error gradually went away during that time.

I'm going to try to fly tomorrow, and I'll gather as much data as possible. I'll also get a firmware backup to send along. I'll give you a call if I get in early enough.
