Retrofitting a D-180 to an RV-4 for panel upgrade. The original builder (I'm 3rd owner) used terminal strips in wiring for CHT and EGT to allow for upgrades. Will the terminal strips be of any problem (added resistance for example) for the D-180? What do you think the effect on accuracy will be? Some fancy shielded comm. cable was used for wiring.

Glenn,
Thermocouples (EGT and CHT probes) must be wired using thermocouple wire of the correct type, no matter what kind of instrument they run to. Hopefully the fancy cable you describe is J and K type thermocouple extension wire, but it's probably worth checking first. Not having thermocouple wire here could cause hundreds of degrees of inaccuracy. The wire between the CHT and EGT probes should be different since the EGT's are K type and the CHT's are J type.

Terminal strips for this kind of wire is not an optimal way to wire it either, but the error here is probably only 1-2 degrees. You will need to run thermocouple wire all the way to the D180, but our harnesses come with 6' of it on each input already.
