EGT probe ?

How close can I get to the exhaust flange without causing any trouble? I have a Vetterman exhaust and #3 is very short. I also just found out that I have 1 1/2'' tubes instead of 1 3/4'' I guess this is why it is tighter to the bottom of the engine than the pictures I have seen.

I have mine at about 1.5 or so inches. Whatever you do make sure they are all the same length. There are EGT probes made by EI that can handle the higher temps into the 1600. I have already replaced 3 Dynon probes in less than 150 hours, usually never got it above 1480f for a few seconds during LOP operations.
