It will cause the electrons to slow down to make the turn safely. It could also cause a backup and and total stop if to much information is traveling to fast. I would place a sharp curve ahead sign to let traffic (electrons) know about the sharp turn. Other than creating a week (stress) point in the wire I see nothing wrong with it. ;D
To add to your sarcastic friend, the bend radius should not be less than twice the diameter of the wire's sheath. Observe that rule and you are fine. Just try to avoid bending back and forth to much, which may work-harden the wire.
