I am intending to use an old set of type J & K senders that I had in my previous installation.  These existing senders have 48" leads.  I do have the Stein Air thermocouple harness.

1.  Would it be better to splice the thermocouple and harness together forward or aft of the firewall?  Or does is make any difference?
2.  I will have to remove the existing connector on my sensors to make with the Stein Air harness.  Do I need any special type of crimp connector?  I am planning on using standard insulated flag connectors.
3.  Is there anything else I should be aware of?

As always, thanks a lot!

You can merge the wires on either side of the firewall, as long as it's not through the firewall (ie a firewall connector). I guess you could argue a slight preference for the cabin side of the firewall.

Flag connectors are fine.

Depending on the coloring of your current senders, you may have some issue figuring out the polarity. You may want to hook one up first and warm it with your hand or something and make sure the temp on the EMS moves the right direction.
