Need help from the community!!! I have had a Dynon system for the past couple of years. This years upgrade is the electroair EFI. We are having difficulty with the tachometer. I am being told by the shop that the tach will only operate from the EFI but not the mag. I loose all tack input during the mag check. The shop has been in contact with Dynon. Any ideas??

Yes, the system should accept both types of inputs. The EFI and and the mag pulse.
See page 7-46 of the Installation Manual Rev AM.
I have the Electroair Experimental Electronic Ignition and one mag.

Kevin,
Helpful info. I have just installed the EA on my C182, single mag version, but have not yet run it. Which installation manual?
The Skyview HDX is next. I'm running a CGR30 for engine instrumentation and will replace that with the Skyview HDX installation which is in process now.

The EA installation manual describes the tach output: Black wire off connector C1 pin 8 @ A/C system voltage, in my case 12V, 3 square wave pulses per revolution. IM-EIS-61000 Rev 16, p 33 of 43.

The Dynon Skyview HDX IM Rev M §12.2.9 p. 134 describes the tach connector for the EMS-220. table 20:
Pin 32 wht/grn Std RPM input Left 10+ volts
Pin 33 wht/blu Std RPM input Right 10+ volts
Pin 34 Blu Low voltage RPM input Left (<12 V)
Pin 35 Grn Low voltage RPM input Right (< 12 V)

Dynon says you can connect different signals to the 2 RPM inputs (p-lead to Std-L and 12 V transducer to Std-R for example) and the skyview will display rpm from either whichever the Skyview notices first. If the source is lost, it should grab the remaining signal if a signal disappears as in during a mag check.

12.2.9.2 describes the p-lead pickup. I had to install resistors on the CGR30 to keep one mag talking to it, but I don't know the technical details on how EI does this v. Dynon. Dynon recommends 30 kOhm resistors for P-lead pulse pickup.

Then you have to configure the EMS220 using the setup menu EIS Wizard, SETUP > HARDWARE> EMS CALIBRATION > TACH CALIBRATION which allows you to set the pulses/rev for counting RPM.

I expect to be testing this setup in about 2 weeks or so.
