The Stock Flight Systems EMU has a relay actuation function that is used to make the Rotax 912 iS a little simpler to start.

The 912 iS requires that its ECUs be powered up before it can be started (electronic fuel injection duh!) and this has to be accomplished by directly connecting them to battery power but not through the starter motor circuit and the ECUs must be disconnected once the engine alternators are producing power (its all for redundancy) .

The Stock EMU does this for you by controlling a 12V. double pole relay that closes when the starter is engaged and then drops out once voltage appears on alternator B and then won't reconnect until the engine has been switched off and on again. This allows you to use a simple Three position auto ignition switch to start the aircraft, instead of using Two switches which to me is a safety hazard.

Does the EMS221 have enough hardware inside it to do that function if it was programmed into it by Dynon? Would Dynon consider doing it if it was technically possible?

The SV-EMS-221 doesn't have that capability today, although we know that this is one of the more finicky aspects of the 912 iS's operation that people would like to see improved. No promises on an eventual feature there, but it's definitely something we're aware of.
