Encoder & Altimeter Calibration concerns

I've installed the D-10A in my RV-9A. I have a Garmin GTX-320A transponder and a Trans-Cal SSD120-30A encoder. I was doing a static line leak check and applied a slight vacuum to raise the altimeter several thousand feet. While doing this I noticed the D-10A started indicating an increasing airspeed.

When I have the encoder calibrated, will there be any danger in damaging the D-10A when the vacuum is raised to simulate 10,000 to 20,000 feet? In other words is there any danger in reducing the static side pressure and not reducing the pitot side of the system?

Thanks...

You will not damage the EFIS by applying any amount of suction to the static sensor. You will see high indicated airspeeds when you do this though, as airspeed is derived from the difference in pitot and static pressures. You will also see effects on the attitude, as airspeed data is used in that algorithm as well.
