I'm working on some software to help with the design of the engine page layout. Can I get a some information about the measurements and scale used in the DFG file.

Skyview 10" unit used in DFG file =  how many pixels
Skyview 7" unit used in DFG file =  how many pixels

Also where the bars start and end within the bounding box.
And where the center of the arc is within the bounding box.

The rest I can get from screen shots or the DFG file.

The engine layout can be hand coded but is tedious at best. The SV layout tools also leave a bit to be desired. Plus using the SV engine layout tools limits the design quite a bit. The width of arcs and bars are stuck with one width and the widgets have three default sizes. SV itself can handle quite a range of sizes and widths. You've probably seen some screen shots on this forum that look quite a bit different than the standard layout.

I'm just trying to make the layout easier using a Windows application. The user will be able to select the widget (Dynon's term for gauges) and stretch and size it, or position it with the mouse plus change any of it's properties. So far I can read the SV *.DFG and draw most of the widgets on the screen so it looks like the SV engine page. May have a BETA version available this spring.

A little youtube demo here. Click the YouTube logo to watch it full browser.

Great job, Murray!
We Canadians ask for features politely, but when ignored we take matters into our own hands! In your case, it's software, in mine it's hardware. Someone has to show Dynon how to do it ;-)

p.s. Were are picking flowers and mowing the grass here in Victoria... how are the snow drifts in SK?

Vern - we're hoping for spring later this year  :(

I'm away for a while so development has stopped. I left a BETA to download for those that want to check it out. It will import a Skyview DFG file but won't export it so that you can load it back into Skyview. Features that do work:

+ Under the File menu Import a Skyview DFG file.
- Nothing works under the Edit menu.
+ Under the Layout menu view the different Skyview Engine layouts in the DFG file.
- You can create widgets from the Widgets menu but they are just for testing.
- The Tools menu also has some testing functions.

+ On any screen, select the widget by clicking on it, Shift Click will get you the ones under the first widget.
+ Use the handles to drag and size the selected widget.
+ Drag and drop the selected widget to move it around.
+ Right Click to get a properties menu. The sizes are Skyview standard sizes.
+ The drop down Thickness will change the thickness of the bar or arc.
+ Select Properties to fine tune the widget or select a different style.

PS. I used the starting setups from the forum for testing if you don't have a handy copy of your DFG file.

Thanks. I am also out of commission for several weeks, so I am not able to follow this up until then. Keep up the good work.

I changed my web site provider and my web sites were down. The link above works again.

The application has more function than before but is still very BETA.

No plans to sell it. It was just a project to keep me busy through the winter. No promises but I might do some more work on it this winter. :) :)

Vern (and others)

For those having problems installing the EMS Editor program. Most anti virus programs complain about a program called setup.exe. I just have Visual C# Express so have limited options for creating the install script. It uses setup.exe to install the editor and I don't think I can't change it.

A couple of options. I use Microsoft Defender for antivirus and it doesn't have a problem with the setup program. The other way is to turn off antivirus, install the program and then turn on the antivirus back on. If the antivirus clobbers the editor you may have to whitelist it.

I noticed that Dynon has made some subtle changes to the ENGINE display in v15. I'll have to do some updates.

Murray, I get an error (even with antivirus off)
"Application cannot be started. Contact the application vendor."

Any tips?

UPDATE: Managed to run in Vista rather than 7, but screens seem corrupted.

Thanks, Vern

Hmmm. Thanks for the heads up Vern. It seems to run on my development system but I'll install it on another computer to see what's going on.

I love your EMS Editor.....I have noticed that when I import the DFG file into the program it isn't importing some of the CAN BUS widgets. Is this because I'm using Skyview 15 and if so is there any future development on your great program
Keep up the great work on this super time saving utility....Dynon should pay you !!
Kind regards
Brinsley
