erratic display, warning messages and now dead :-(

My EFIS D-10A has been working happily for last couple of years,
so I was rather surprised when last weekend upon starting up, the display didn't look normal
(if I remember correctly altimeter scale and couple of other things were missing - horizon was OK) and got some weird messages about temperature.
We were in the middle of heatwave here in UK (so I thought this might be something to do with the error messages?).
I switched it off and than on again (in a usual "pc helpdesk" fashion  :) ) and things got back to normal. I flew for couple of hours and everything was fine.
Unfortunately, yesterday when I switched on ... nothing happened - just black screen  :'(
Been like this (ie dead) ever since.
I plan to go back to the airfield on Tue, to disconnect everything (including backup battery) to see if this resets things?
But before I do so, I would appreciate any advice, or similar experiences - don't want to take it all out, only to be told later that I could/should have tried something else  ::)

thanks
Chris

ps
-it is still as originally installed, nothing changed since (including no updates etc) that could account for what has happened or point to some change being responsible...
-it is connected to AvMap EKPIV GPS and has external compass sender thingy
-it has backup battery, connected directly to the main battery for trickle charge

Re: erratic display, warning messages and now dead

There are two temperature errors that you might have seen:

"Temperature Out of Spec" means that the unit is hot, and that the sensors are beyond their specified ranges (thought the unit will continue to work, usually).

"Temp Unstable" means that the unit has heated or cooled faster than we want to see it change - again, sensor performance can suffer as this happens.

Neither are such critical errors that they should be followed by what you're seeing (breakage), though too much time spent at extreme temperatures obviously isn't great for electronics in general. They're warnings that are letting you know that performance can be (but isn't definitely) degraded.

Try disconnecting / reconnecting as you've suggested, and if that doesn't produce results, give us a call at 425-402-0433.

Re: erratic display, warning messages and now dead

thanks!
I have checked the supply - everything OK all the way to both pin 1 (switched) and pin 2 (direct). Reading 11.9V
Taken out backup battery - 13.01 V
Switched everything on again and still dead ...
Back in the workshop - connected bench power supply to pins 1 and 3 and still dead ...
Temp warnings the other day might be red herring and just coincidence?
It was very hot day and I started aircraft after it was parked for few hours in the sun without covers and if I recall correctly the warning messages were about it being unstable?
Anyway ... it was hot as far as usual UK weather, but not the hottest the aircraft/EFIS has experienced before.

So it looks like the box needs to go back to you  :(

I think we might need to take a look at it. Also note that we've stopped recommending having keep alive connected because of some power cycling issues that have cropped up over time that aren't easily fixed via software.

thanks for that!
Didn't know about "keep alive" recommendation, but that's easy - will disconnect it.
Parcel on it's way (have RMA, thanks)
