What is the concensus on totally removingor coiling up the unused wires of the main harnesses?

Please respond only if you are already flying (rather than the conjecture of what "should happen").

The symptoms I see are very strange. This weekend, on the two hour flights over and back to CA from AZ, some of the pilot's side engine indications were erratic at exactly the same time the other screen showed the same values steady as a rock. The EMS is plugged into the co-pilot's screen and skyview net connected to the pilot's screen.

The erratic ones were the RPM and #1 CHT.

The other oddity was that NAV mode would not show up on the AP menu. Only HDG and TRACK. This was true while the Garmin 430 was outputting the current flight plan and the correct HSI data showed up on the PFD.

Mike H asked for a screen dump of the NAV mode issue, so I flew this AM to get that. In the process of plugging in the USB stick, I moved the coiled up wires around a bit and then fired up. I expected the engine indications to be like they were over the weekend, but they were steady on both displays throughout a one hour test flight.

Also, the NAV mode showed up on the AP menu and worked excellently in flight.

Is it possible that the coiled up wires are coupling in so much noise that it interferes in this way?

On the erratic EMS issue - basically no chance the coiled screen wires are causing it. But, we think we might have at least another report of this behavior, so we're looking into it.

Keep working with Mike on the other issue though.
