Firmware v.4.0.4

Installed 4.0.4 yesterday in my D10A and found the new display to be absolutely GREAT. However, three times in an hour of flying the screen went dark and a warning concerning the horizon appeared. The unit rebooted itself and restored normal operation in about 30 seconds.
Should I be concerned? Is there something I overlooked?
Thanks for a great instrument, at a reasonable price.

It sounds like the unit is rebooting. If our unit is rebooted in-flight, you'll get the "horizon recovering" annunciation (with the grayed out horizon) while the artificial horizon aligns itself over a few seconds.

Since you just did a firmware update, I'd make sure that nothing in the harness has become intermittent. If you don't find anything there, try restoring the backup you took prior to updating to 4.0 and see if that changes anything.

Not sure just what the difference is between 4.0 and 4.0.4
Log says "New build with EMS-only changes"

Does Dynon recommend that you update 4.0 firmware to 4.0.4 for Efis D10a and EMSD10?

The EMS is the only one that gets a very slight change in that update.
