Flight director not following approach glideslope

I have  Skyview 14 and GNS 430. I cannot get the flight director to follow the glideslope. It gives good lateral guidance but not vertical. The HSI seems to be accurate, just not the flight director.
Is there a trick to the sequence of buttons?
I activate the RNAV approach on the 430 and the NAV button on the SV-AP panel.
Should the VNAV button be pushed to get from the current ALT to track the vertical??

SkyView (like all autopilots) will only capture the glideslope / glidepath if you manually intercept it from below. It won't dive for the GS, and it won't climb for it. Just like an IFR pilot would do.

If you have it armed correctly, it should say ALT->VNAV in the top bar. If it's in this state, it will hold the current altitude until you navigate to the point where you join the glideslope. You do need to hit the VNAV button.

Have you been doing all this and it sill isn't working?
