Fuel Computer setting

Hi, my airplane (I am not the builder) has 2 wing tanks (20gl each), with no fuel sensor, plus a head tank (6gl) with a sensor installed. Yesterday I emptied everything for a new weight and balance and got the message (see attached) stating the in-tank sensors were measuring 1.6gl. Any ideas on why the sender reads that number?

Provided all of your hardware and connections are functional and correct, my guess is that whoever calibrated the tank before you owned it did not calibrate it correctly. Re-doing the calibration is not difficult, especially if the tank is of a smaller capacity and already empty. See pages 7-62 & 7-63 of the current installation guide. One big consideration not emphasized in the manual is to let the indicated voltages truly stabilize before you hit the save button. It can easily take several minutes for the zero and lower quantity values, especially for capacitive senders.

The number in that window is intended to be helpful when you have tank sensors that measure all of the fuel in the aircraft. Then you can use it as a reference to match the fuel computer to it. In your case, that last line only represents the measured fuel in the header tank (which may or may not be calibrated correctly, as the previous poster suggests). Essentially, you'd ignore that info since it's not a good comparison to the fuel computer.
