After years of non workable left and right tank quantity not working in an Arion Lightning/Jabiru 3300. I attempted to calibrate my D180. I have the red cube input into the unit and I have very accurate total gallons but my left usually reads .5 gal and my right either zero or full. Starting from empty tanks I followed the instructions and the right wing calibration program appeared to progress ok and when full, I got a message that calibration was successful and in addition got a list of sensor values that increased with each 2 gallon increment running from 132 to 5051, but stopped when 14 gallons was loaded in this 20 gallon tank. I assume I reached the limit of the capacitance probe, but in any case the quantity showed 20 which was correct.
I then started on the left tank and with each 2 gallon load, the sensor value did not increase and stayed at 2450 all the way to full. 18.9 gallons was loaded but the indicator for left tank on my D180 still read .5. I was informed the calibration was successful by the program. In addition, after leaving the calibration program, now the LEFT TANK LOW red warning is on steady and I note it cannot be extinguished as with say, low oil pressure. I can only get it out by disconnecting the sensor plug.
I need to know how I can determine if the internal fuel quantity circuitry or ? is working inside my D 180 box. Or what signal or input should I be seeing from the sensor in the wing. It is the Princeton capacitance system.
I can see where the calibration was input ok, but the information is not displayed on my EMS page for fuel. Total on board fuel is perfect from the input of the red cube.
thank you, George Andre

You can swap left and right to confirm the D180 works. If the problem changes sides, the D180 is working. This sounds a lot like a sensor issue, but you want to be sure.

Thanks Rhino. I did that and the indications remained the same, left 0, right full. But my tanks are full so Im gonna burn off some gas and narrow it down. It could just be the connector at the D180 loose.

Just so we're on the same page here, you swapped them in the setup, or you swapped the wires going to the D180? If you didn't swap the wires, you haven't really gotten any good evidence. I ask because, if you swapped wires, I would think you'd already know if the connector was loose. Or maybe you swapped them somewhere else?

I swapped the wires so my left tank sensor is going to the right tank display on the D180. Right tank shows full but it really the left tank quantity. Left tank Qnty still shows zero even though it is wired to the right sensor. After I burn some fuel out of the left tank, I should see a decrease on the indicator proving that my left sensor is working and the problem is in the D180 box. Hope that makes sense. I wiggled the connector D37, I think it is, and saw no changes in the fuel display in case that might have been the problem.

A clarification (that I think you already know): The EMS left tank calibration isn't valid, based on your original post. So no matter what you hook it up to, the EMS left indication won't show anything useful. If your EMS right indication shows a valid fuel level now that it's connected to the airplane left tank, then that could point to the EMS. OR, it could point to the wiring, which you may have inadvertently "fixed" by disconnecting/reconnecting things.
