I have two 7" skyview screens, an SL-30, G-430W, SV-250 & Arinc 429 in the front of my RV-8. I am just going through the set up of the units and had a couple of problems.

1. When I had both screens on PFD I could select Synthetic vision on, however it only displayed on the top screen. The bottom screen stayed in non-synthetic vision format. When syntetic vision was selected off, both screens had synthetic vision off. You could do the selection from either screen but it did not change the outcome. Both screens have synthetic vision enabled.

2. My G-430w is set up as GPS-1 & Nav 1. The 430W shows the following error message "not receiving input data on 429 chanel #1". I have tried to set it up as per the info I have found here in the forums. Is there a location that has a consolidated list of all the Skyview and Garmin 430W & SL-30 settings? Iv'e not been able to find it on the wiki. Hints to its location would be much appreciated.

3. My SL-30 seems to be communiction well with the skyview, when selected it shows CDI & GS as well as the selected frequency. I am not able to get this info when selecting the 430, perhaps it is part of the problem in qn 2.

So far skyview has been a real pleasure to work with, I managed to get the transponder and pitch autopilot servo talking nicely to skyview which made my weekend.

Cheers

Re: G-430W Error message & asymetric synthetic

1) It sounds like one or more of the terrain databases is not installed on the screen that's not getting synthetic vision. That, or it doesn't have a GPS signal. GPS does need to be connected to both displays in parallel.

2) The latest version of the manual actually added that information. Grab Rev H (as of 8/2011) from our website.

3) Yes, it sounds like one or more of the connections/settings between the SV-ARINC-429 and SkyView hasn't been made.

Re: G-430W Error message & asymetric synthetic vis

Ok, so lesson learned, make sure the high res terrain data base in all units is the same. I was experimenting with loading different data bases, so one had north america and the other had europe (wishfull trip planning).

What is the maximum number of high res terrain databases that can be loaded to a unit? Each time I loaded a new database it wiped the previously loaded one. It would be nice for long trips if 2 or more could be loaded and stored.

Thanks for the link to the new install manual, I made the settings as suggested.

Cheers

Re: G-430W Error message & asymetric synthetic

Only one database can be loaded. The system has 4GB of storage internally (quality stuff that costs a LOT more than a cheap USB stick), and the databases are designed to be as big as possible and take up all that storage. If we could load more than one, it would ship with them all installed and not make you do it ;)

Part of the reason we have this issue is that our terrain is 10X the resolution of most systems, so it's quite large. The whole world is 20GB, and that's after compression- it's over 1000 GB when we get it.

If you really take a long trip, we suggest you get a big USB stick, and load all the databases you need on it. They overlap quite a bit, so that when you get near to the edge of one, at the next fuel stop you can load the next one while you refuel.
