Garmin 296 interface with FlightDek 180

My Garmin 296 won't hook up to my FlightDek 180/AP74 so that I can use the NAV function on the autopilot. What settings (baud rate etc) need to be selected on the FlightDek 180 and on the Garmin 296? I have checked the wiring and it is as it should be.

NMEA + VHF OUT at 9600 baud, and in the Advanced NMEA Setup menu ensure that the data rate is set to normal, not fast.

Many thanks for the help. Are those settings for the Garmin?
Presumably the FlightDek automatically receives the signal if the Garmin's settings are correct?

You presume correctly. Those setting are for the Garmin, and the FlightDEK settings should be automatic.
