Question for Dynon Support: Can a Garmin Area 500 GPS receiver be connected to a Skyview System and configured as GPS 1 for example and as a backup for the Dynon GPS receiver? If so is it ok to just connect RX and TX from the Area 500 to (for example) pin 3 and 4 of the display harness? Or is there an additional ground wire required.

Yep! If the Aera and SkyView are both externally powered and share the same ground, then you don't need an additional one. Doesn't hurt if you've wired one up though. Technically speaking we only need the TX wire from the Aera to an RX on SkyView - we don't send anything back to it.
Yep. You want the Aera tx going to the same serial rx on both SkyView displays.
