GDL 90 DATA Input Via WiFI?

I may soon be forced by Australian Regulations to acquire ADSB -Out capability. I would like ADSB -In, but not at the expense of using an iPad for data display.

The cheapest solution for me is a sky echo - appproved in Australia that outputs ADB data on wifi, primarily for EFP applications on iPads to display.

Will SV 16 receive ADSB-in data in gdl90 format via wifi? That would give me ADSB -In and Out capability for about $700.

As for ADSB Out, Australia wont accept the dynon GPS as a position source.

Doing an "all Dynon" solution is not possible and a TSO GPS source and ADSB 472 ballpark is over $4000.

Thank you. I thought the "Garmin TIS Format" data mentioned on page 4 -23 was GDL 90 whatsit. Not so?

No, that's the GTX330 era format for traffic data that's received via the (now-legacy) TIS-A system.

SkyView doesn't currently accept gdl90 format ADS-B data.
I am hopeful this changes eventually. I’ve got a Stratus ESG with full ADSB in and out in my legacy panel. I want to go Dynon HDX but am penny pinching. Seems a shame to have all that data floating around and still needing to use my iPad to show it :(

Hopefully Dynon can align with AFS and allow GDL90 in. Seems a shame to have to change to the Dynon transponder and sell my ESG.

I would also benefit from Skyview HDX being able to read GDL90 data streams. I have a U-Avionics Echo UAT transceiver that monitors my legacy King 76A transponder and provides ADSB IN/OUT. It also provides WIFI and Serial port data streams for GPS, Weather and Traffic. It works very well. It is frustrating that my new Skyview HDX 1100 won't accept the GDL90 format. Currently, I am forced to receive weather and traffic on portable devices that have screens that do not perform as well in brightly lit cockpits as the Skyview. I am in a position where It would take a lot of work and funds to replace a working transponder and ADSB system for no gain in function. Hoping that Dynon will consider offering this function.

Gary- have you not considered installing the Dynon SV-ADSB-472 receiver? It's only $800, and solves your problem nicely.

You are missing my point. I already have a U-Avionics Echo UAT transceiver in/out that monitors my legacy King transponder.
I have no need to replace these. They function well. Nor do I want to replicate function that I already have. The weather and traffic data is already available. My Dynon HDX just needs to accept the input.

No, you missed my point. I understand you already have an ADSB solution, but as you said you are "forced to receive on unsuitable portable devices". As you already know, Skyview can't receive GDL 90 data via WiFi- and it's not likely to do so in coming months, years, or never. Dead end at this point, unless you want to wait a LONG time. I can't help that you made the purchasing decisions that you did, but it is what it is at this point. It seemed to me that $800 is a small price to pay for what you are trying to achieve- and you gain so much more in terms of practicality, convenience, and comfort.

My system outputs the data in hardwired serial format also. I am not asking for Dynon to leap thru a brick wall, just read a very common format. I suspect there are several more out there that would benefit. Maybe they should weigh in, if it means anything to them now would be a good time so Dynon can get a read on the need.

We tried for a long time to get Dynon to accept GDL90 data. When Dynnon was having so many problems in the development of the ADSB 472 they almost went ahead and allowed GDL90 data over serial to be read by Skyview. Unfortunately for us, they solved the ADSB 472 development issue and came out with the box (upgrade to dual frequency from ADSB 471). The screen is capable of processing and displaying the data. Dynon will not allow it as they want to sell the ADSB 472. I have both the ADSB 472 feeding my Skyview and my Echo UAT feeding a GRT Mini. The weather depiction on the Skyview is better but the traffic from the Echo and information processing on the GRT is vastly superior. I can ask the GRT for information on a field I know has no weather reporting and will instantly be provided with the nearest reporting weather and given the location and age of that weather. I would be willing to pay a licensing fee to offset Dynon revenue from the ADSB 472 sale to send GDL90 data directly to the Skyview. It would save me a box and antenna to not have to replicate mounting in a small airplane. I was unable to convince Dynon.
