Wiring SeaRey amphibian for new audio gear warning using EMS D37 Pin 31.  Which will be the contact sensor input for gear UP/WATR, <2V or 5+V?  In other words do I wire it to the gear Up or Down light?  Thanks.

We would need to know a bit more about how the contact is connected, and the electrical conditions present during both states.

We provide a pretty good explanation of contact inputs in our SkyView System Installation Guide, beginning on Page 7-55.

As the manual says:

"Install the GEAR contact that when the amphibious landing gear is configured for landing on water, the state of the contact is WATR and when the amphibious landing gear is configured for landing on land, the state of the contact is LAND."

You can make it work either way, and what you need to do is configure your contact correctly. When you configure the contact input, make sure it is named LAND when your gear is down and WATR when it is up. So if you are 14V when the gear is up, name the contact state that is 2.5V-5V WATR and the other LAND. We can't read more than 5V so 14V will be 5V for us, but it works just fine.

My initial problem was understanding how to name the contact state "UP" "DOWN" "LAND" "WATR."  Later when going through the sensor configuration, I decided that you meant enabling and naming range R1 and R2 with a pair of those.  Here's my setup:

EMS Sensor Input D37 Pin 31:  CONTACT CONTACT GEAR

EMS Sensor Config GEAR:  Alarm Self-clear, R1 Enable Yes, Name LAND, Volts 0.0-2.0; R2 Yes, WATR, 2.0-5.0

Airplane Information: AMPHIB, Check AS 45 KTS, Overspeed 100 KTS

After wiring my contact, I found found 4.4 VDC on D37 pin 31.  During a test flight when closing the contact, taking pin 31 to ground above the airspeed set point, I heard "Engine Monitor" and nothing further even when airspeed decayed through the set point.
