Ghost targets are currently an unfortunate reality in the way the ADS-B system is designed. The first time the radar sweeps you, it may not get all the information it needs, including N-number and direction. However, it still considers that a valid target and relays that to the system. When it sweeps you again, it might get all the info it needs, but you've now moved from your previous location. The system reports both the old target and new target.
SkyView automatically filters out ghost targets IF they include your own N-number. But, as discussed above -- and as you likely experienced -- the ghost target didn't include your N-Number. As a result, SkyView (or any product) does not have the information it needs to say that that target is you, resulting in us reporting both.
We have been working with the FAA this, and hope that they implement better filtering.
