GPS communication link

I'm new. Yesterday this thread did not appear for me...don't know why. Anyway I posted this question on the general discussion thread. It belongs here. My question:

Can I connect my GPS info line to pin #3 on the 9 pin Serial I/O mostly used for downloading?
