GPS Time in the "Top Bar"

Should the first release of SV firmware display GPS time in the "Top Bar?

I have a Garmin GPS90 (yes, I still works fine!) connected to SV1000 with AHRS. The GPS data is arriving and SynVis and Map work fine. The GPS time is verified in the GGA message using Hyperterminal, but the top bar is blank.

The installation guide says:
"Reference the SkyView System Installation Guide for details on how to configure the top bar."

There is no other info about turning on or configuringthe top bar in the guide. The SV1000 configuration page just has an entry for local time offset of the time display.

What gives?

Is the top bar blank or is it dashes?

Does the GPS90 output date correctly? We do require a correct date for the time to be valid, since we use the date for magnetic variation data.

You can also go into the HW config in the setup menu and then compass cal, and see if it says "time and date valid" or not.

If you can post a snippet of the GGA sentence we can look at it.

Thanks,

When I get home tonight, I will look at the GPS90 output again to see if date is present. I know it is not in the GGA sentence. I think it is only in the ZDA sentence.

The top bar is dashes.

I looked at Compass Cal and it says not valid for date/time.

The above is interesting now, but much more important is the question of interfacing to my panel mount GNS430W when the Skyview ARINC converter and firmware are available.

The 430 outputs time in ARINC 429, but date appears to be only in GAMA 429 output. Will GPS input from GNS430W work or not?

The 430 will work fine if you have ARINC. GAMA-429 is a software extension to ARINC-429 and we already support it in the HS-34 and will in SkyView as well.

The date is normally in the RMC sentence, which is one of our required sentences. We need RMC and GGA. RMC is where we pull position, time, and date, and GGA is where we pull altitude.

Thanks. Tonight I will look for RMC from the GPS90.

Glad to hear that ARINC/GAMA 429 should be all I need for the panel mount.

Thanks for the help.

This ancient GPS puts out an invalid date field in the RMC sentence. Wonder if it had the GPS week rollover bug or the millenium bug (1999), or whatever. Haven't thought about those problems in a long time!
