GPS with EFIS & EMS

The installation manual says that if you have an EFIS and an EMS, you hook up the GPS to the EMS.

This will allow the display of the gps course on the EFIS in the main display mode and the HSO mode?

For this to work can I just hook up the DSUB bus and not the serial ports?

Yes and yes.

Hook the GPS to the EMS, then hook the DSAB wires together. You'll get GPS stuff on your EMS (MPG, fuel at waypoint) and the full HSI on the EFIS.
