This for anyone wishing to move away from exposed current shunts.
I have made use of a Honeywell CS series Hall effect current transducer. They are available in 3 handy ranges 57A,72A and 100A.
The output is ratiometric (changes in proportion to supply volts) but this is easily managed by using the 12volt regulated supply from the Dynon SV. The output is 1/2 supply volts at 0 Amps (6volts) and swings + and -3volts. To make it function on a GP input (I used pin 8)on the SV. I found I had to halve the output using a potential divider. The SV seems to limit at 5 Volts on the input. Once I found out how to modify the EMS files (thanks to Jimmie!) it was easy to put a file together to handle the Ammeter. Not sure how to attach the notebook EMS file here but will provide it to anyone interested.
SV.

I am currently experiencing these problems(wildly fluctuating ammeter) in 2014 and I can't seem to find a solution to the problem in any thread. I currently do not have a shunt installed and this is about to happen at some cost. is there a solution to this situation?
Thanks

Bristell,
What kind of current measuring device do you have installed?
What engine?
What airframe?
Where in the system is the shunt?
How big is the fluctuation in the ammeter?
Does it happen only with the engine running?
Does turning anything on/off make it better or worse?

Sorry my info was lousy.

This is a new aircraft with a Dynon D120 EMS installed by a local (South African) avionics company. Clifton avionics.

The aircraft is a Bristell from Czech Republic all aluminium

Engine type is a Rotax 912ULS

The voltage remains constant.

The ammeter bounces between +2/3 to -6 almost constantly.

This is with the engine running

Turning equipment on and off makes no difference.

The LED beacon light is connected directly to the master so is always on when switching on the EMS.

A power cable was fitted to the QBK (quick build kit) but there is no shunt installed at this time.

Info on the thread does not give any clarity as to whether a shunt will resolve the problem and if so which would be the best to use.

Thanks for your assistance.

Regards

Ian,
If you aren't using a shunt, what kind of current measurement device are you using? The D120 can't read amps without a shunt or a hall effect sensor.
