Digging through the installation manuals and researching how to get VNAV to follow descent profiles it appears that baro-corrected air data is a necessity for the IFD to properly build the profiles. Does the HDX provide this? and what is the best way to enable it with the IFD? Looking at the calculators tab in the IFD it shows the baro value in white suggesting it is not linked to the ADAHRS. I am just starting my IFR training and looking to get all the bugs worked out in the system to ensure maximum usage of all installed equipment.

I am sending Baro Alt from my Skyview HDX (D37-8, Serial Port 3 TX, Icarus 10’, 9600), to my AXP340 Transponder for ADS-B OUT (Primary 7 (IN), Icarus, 9600), then from the AXP340 (Primary 6 (OUT), Icarus,9600) to my IFD540 (P1001-42, RS232 (IN) 3, Icarus Alt, 9600). Works great. Of course you can go from the HDX to the 540 directly, but I wanted to show you that your ADS-B OUT device also has BARO Altitude in it somewhere, and if that device has Serial Out with an Icarus protocol available, you can tap Baro Alt from the ADS-B OUT device, in the case that you might be out of RS232 ports on the HDX.
