Hello everyone. My club is in the middle of a full panel upgrade. We just had Saint Aviation swap out a GNS530w for an IFD540 and will return in Feb for a single screen HDX install with some other things added in while we're at it.

Being in a club, the question came up at a meeting yesterday regarding user settings. The IFD has 10 user presets, so that's plenty to let most folks customize the settings for their own desires. However, what about the HDX? As highly configurable as it is, I understand there's not a way to save preferences for multiple users... in other words, whatever you change the settings to, is what they are, until someone else makes another change, and on and on. Is this correct? IF so, is there at least a way to reset all the data fields to a default setting? At least changing from track up to North up and back is simple, which is one of the main user preference differences we see in the club.

How do others with multiple pilots handle differences in desired settings?

I asked a similar question a few weeks ago with no answer. I figured there would at least be a good way to put "my" default settings on a USB stick and load them in. That's probably the answer but you need to work with the settings script to cover only those few items.

There isn't a turnkey way to save or load user configurations. But as midlifeflyer suggests, you can comb through the configuration files to find parameters that you'd want to adjust for each user. There isn't a secret decoder ring for the config file, and there ARE a lot of deep system configuration parameters in there, so be careful. But many of the user-oriented preference settings are pretty obviously named. You can load excerpts of config files, ie, a 5 line config file that has just the 5 settings you want to change is totally valid.
