HDX WiFi Problems

I am wondering if others are experiencing WiFi dropping on their HDX Systems? Background: I have a dual screen HDX system (yes I have both WiFI dongles installed) that I have been flying behind for almost five years and 700 hours. I have on occasion had problems where the wifi connection between my Dynon's and my IPad (running Foreflight) would briefly cut out, but it quickly restored. It has recently been much more frequent and often does not come back without rebooting the IPad (sometimes that doesn't work either). As a means of troubleshooting, to ensure it was not my IPad (Mini 6), I used a Stratux and connected my IPad to it for ADS-b in and for my roughly 1 hour flight the IPad stayed connected to the Stratux. So I believe problem is with the Dynon. I have the older style Dongles and was wondering if the new style are any better?

How many devices do you have connected to your HDX system? HDX currently only supports 1 WIFI connection. If you have more than one device connected, you will see disconnects. Both my iPhone and iPad will automatically connect to my HDIX system. If I want to use one of these devices in flight, I have to ensure that the WIFI service is disabled on the other device. The "one device connection at a time" WIFI connection limitation is covered in this post.

Thanks for that insight. I suspect both are connected and will try it, but I have been flying with these devices for several years and many hours and the problem has just gotten much worse. I guess WIFI isn't really wifi then and more like Bluetooth...

the location of the wifi dongle could be the problem, at the back of the unit surrounded by a lot of wires and sheet metal. This isn't a friendly environment for the wifi signal. I would try extending the usb port to the front of the panel and see if still an issue.

Thanks, I have already purchased the extension cables and will give it a try...just having one device connected didn't fix it.
