I have a D-180 with HS34. I have a 696 installed and hardwired. When I attempt to use the GPS for NAV on the HSI page I get a "waiting for data" message. Would this be another case of not doing the proper computer installation process or is it possibly a wiring problem?

Most likely a wiring or configuration problem. Nothing with the computer though. First, double check that the serial out from the 696 is going to the HS34's serial in. Next, make sure your 696 is set to output NMEA+VHF data, and that under the advanced NMEA setup the data rate is set to "normal", not "fast".
