Hi Dynon,

as we have "not yet" a HS34 Forum I post it here.

I did read through the HS34 description and I have some more questions:

-if I have a GPS who can only supply ARINC 429 data will the HS34 be able
to convert that ARINC data in order that an EFIS or EMS will be able to
understand it for HSI/wind purpose?

-Does the HS34 provide the ARINC stream from above on a serial port in
a NMEA format as output?

-consider the GPS on the HS34 and the SL-30 directly on the EFIS, does the
HS34 provide the GPS stream via DSAB to the EFIS so I no longer need
a switch to toggle between SL-30 and GPS? Or even better can I hook
up all (SL-30 and GPS) to the HS34 and all goes then via DSAB?

Many thanks for some answers which gives some more insight in the functionality
of the HS34 and might I suggest to open a forum for that unit  ?

Yes, this is the primary purpose of the HS34.

No, it does not convert data between ports. It is designed to get data into the Dynon equipment, not convert data for other external equipment.

-consider the GPS on the HS34 and the SL-30 directly on the EFIS, does the
HS34 provide the GPS stream via DSAB to the EFIS so I no longer need

With the HS34 ALL of your navigation equipment must hook to the HS34. You no longer use the serial ports on the EFIS or EMS. The HS34 has two serial ports for use with GPS units or the SL-30, and because the serial ports are bi-directional, we can set the OBS on the SL-30 instead of you needing to use the OBS on the SL-30.

To switch between units you just press the "NAV SRC" button on the HS34.

of the HS34 and might I suggest to open a forum for that unit ?

Actually, since our units are so tied together, we're considering having fewer sections of the forum, not more. We have the D180, and the HS34 requires an EFIS, so it's hard to ask a question that just relates to one unit. In any case, your point is well taken and we are looking at re-organizing our categories.

Very interesting,

understand, maybe I missed something, so if I have a D100 and a D120 how do I switch between the two and select for each the NAV SRC?

Thanks a lot

With the upcoming DSAB release, ALL HSI's in the system will be set up the same. You cannot show the NAV on one and the GPS on the other. The way it works today is actually a restriction on us being able to sync stuff up nicely. When you change the source on one HSI screen, all the ones in the system will sync up.

If you want to show different sources on two different instruments, you'll need to not connect DSAB and wire to each instrument individually.

What you can do is show a bearing source from anything that can show it, so you can put a GPS pointer under your NAV src or vice-versa. You can have two bearing pointers so you can have a primary NAV src and then a pointer to a GPS location and a standby NAV.
