HS34 wiring clarification

Just ordered the HS34 in order to simplify my wiring but have question, I have D-100, D-120 with SL-30 and 496. According to the HS34 appendix I can wire SL-30 RS232 to pins 2 and 15 on male D25 and I assume the 496 RS232 out to pin 1 on male D25. This would then allow switching via the control panel. The documentation seems to imply that I will still need to disconnect the 496 from pin 1 for HS34 firmware updates is this correct or can the HS34 firmware be updated over the DSAB bus via the serial ports on the D-100 or D-120.
I was hoping I would not need to make a disconnect connector for either of the nav units with the HS34 control panel.

Thanks

Dave

The HS34 would need to be updated directly. DSAB can not load firmware to other units..

You basically have it right - if you are using the both serial ports, you'd need to disconnect the device hooked to serial port 1. One way to do this somewhat elegantly is to pin out serial 1's transmit, receive, and ground in to the included 9 pin female serial connector as instructed in the HS34 section of the manual. Then, get a male 9 pin serial connector and hook whichever radio/gps into the appropriate pins on it. Then, when you need to update the HS34, you just pull apart the 9 pin connectors and hook up the PC to the HS34.

Got it, thanks. Related question after wiring up more stuff this weekend and more reading of the manuals, I assume that I can wire the EMS GP inputs to the HS34 instead of the EMS and the communication will occur over the DSAB bus is this correct, also what happens to the AoA warning audio (I assume there is some form of AoA audio) if I use the synthetic voice capabilities of the HS34 as the voice messages in the appendix do not reference the AoA from the EFIS. Do I still need to wire the EFIS audio out to my intercom or will it all pass through the HS34 and hence I only need to wire the HS34 audio out to my intercom to get ALL EFIS and EMS aural warnings.
I assume that any warnings transmitted over the bus will not be delayed.

Thanks

Quick follow-up question as I think about it, I am planning to integrate the external warning light input with my master caution light, I assume from the documentation that this will switch to ground for any internal warning so I will get an audio and a visual warning for any out of tolerance condition. Will this also work with the AoA?
Thanks
